This type of treatment is suitable for the women who have unpredictable or irregular ovulation or are not ovulating at all. If your male partner is healthy and his sperm count, mobility and other reports are normal, then it would be the first treatment option gynaecologist would start with. Use of fertility medicines and cycle monitoring, enables gynaec to decide the ovulation timing and this increases the chances of conception.

Ovulation is a process, happens once in every menstrual cycle, wherein hormonal changes prompt the release of an egg from a follicle, found in the ovary. Follicles are a fluid filled sacs, which contain an immature egg, usually in a menstrual cycle several follicle start developing but only one will ovulate a mature egg. This released egg is available in the fallopian tube to be fertilised with sperm cell.

Ovulation usually occurs 12-16 days prior to the first day of your next periods, it depends on the length of your monthly cycle. However, in few women ovulation doesn’t happen every month or is quite irregular, gynaec uses fertility drugs or injections to induce the ovulation.

Once a candidate starts with ovulation induction cycle, wherein fertility drugs are administered to induce ovulation, regular pelvic ultrasound scans are performed to track the follicle development and to access the lining of the womb. Scanning frequency depends upon the rate with which follicle is growing. Blood test may also performed to measure hormone levels and to determine the timing of ovulation. Ovulation induction cycles are usually followed by HCG injections to trigger ovulation.

When all the tests and scans points toward the ovulation, the timing of sexual intercourse can be advised.
